COP (coefficient of performance) =
the number of heating watts output
for every watt of electricity input.
Heat Siphon is a SWIMMING POOL HEAT PUMP (SPHP), like an air conditioner, which requires an electric input to extract heat from the air and transfer it to the pool water.
The following table shows the ratings of the most popular SPHP brands in terms of EFFICIENCY (COP) and Heat Output (BTUH). Models chosen will heat a 650-800 sq ft pool under normal conditions. Higher COP = lower daily operating cost:
BRAND | COP/ BTUH @50°F Air* | COP/ BTUH @80°F Air* |
HEAT SIPHON ZL575HP | 4.4 / 85,000 | 6.2 / 127,000 |
AquaCal SQ225 | 4.0/ 90,000 | 6.1/ 134,000 |
---|---|---|
Hayward HP21404TC | 4.0/ 85,000 | 5.5/ 130,000 |
Jandy JE3000T | 4.2/ 86,000 | 6.1/ 127,000 |
Pentair 460833 | 4.0/ 80,000 | 5.5/ 120,000 |
Raypak R8450ti | 4.0/ 84,000 | 5.3/ 130,000 |
Low Air Temp COP Really Counts!
At 50°F Air Heat Siphon’s COP of 4.4 Leads the Pack @ 5 to 10% higher than ALL OTHER BRANDS. Low air temperature is what increases heat loss and when heat pumps run more. The higher the air temperature the less runtime needed.
It’s COP not Size (BTUH)
If Heat Pump A has a 5% higher heat output than Heat Pump B it will run 5% LESS TIME to deliver the same total heat as the one with 95% of its heat output. BUT, if Heat Pump B has a 10% higher COP, it will still SAVE 10% compared to Heat Pump A.
CONCLUSION: ALWAYS PICK THE HIGHEST COP when choosing a heat pump.
